Background:
A project I worked on my Junior year of college for the Mech/Med E 105 course
Problem Statement:
Pressure sores occur as a result of wheel-chair bound people placing prolonged pressure on their back & glutes without realizing it. Lax is a simple system that uses force-sensitive resistors to monitor regions of pressure sore-vulnerability over time, alerting the reader if relief is needed.
Solution:
The pressure sensors on Lax are adjustable using a simple velcro pad so each user can get the pad fitted to their body contours. We designed a simple UI to alert users of when they need to adjust their positioning to relieve pressure. Lights on each of the five areas will turn from green to red when the user has put too much pressure on that region , and a beep will alert them to adjust their positioning.
